I was reading an article on the Time.com website about how overpopulation is one of the largest issues that the world needs to address if we want to curb some of the environmental problems. The supply and demand imbalance is largely contributing to the skyrocketing food and energy prices.
One of the things that I found interesting about this article was the proposition that the most successful way to control overpopulation is to put women in control of their own procreation. In countries where women have access to birth control, the birth rate drops. I imagine that’s very true, common sense would dictate that most women would not want to have a lot of children – children are a lot of work, and are expensive to care for!
Every now and then I see someone posting a question on our yahoo community group that they are looking for a good recommendation for a local family lawyer to help them with filing for a legal separation, or trying to get their child support amount increased. When I see posts like that I have to admit that it makes me really glad that my children are completely grown and those kinds of issues are well behind me now.
The years that our family did have to suffer through those issues was a very stressful time for all of us. We were constantly being dragged to court to defend our custody and support judgements. Thankfully the family lawyers that I hired was very generous in allowing me to send him monthly payments for years on end, without ever charging me interest on the outstanding balance. I’m so glad that those days are behind us; I hate to think that any of my own kids will ever have to go through that kind of experience in their marriages.
I was reading on the BBC website that a man from Milwaukee WIsconsin was been arrested for shooting his lawn mower with a sawed off shotgun. He told police “it’s my lawnmower and my yard so I can shoot it if I want.” He has been charged with disorderly conduct and illegal possession of a sawn off shotgun.
I’m no mechanical expert, but I don’t think shooting a lawn mower will “fix” whatever was wrong with it! The story does not give a reason for the shooting, so I don’t know if he was mad that the mower wouldn’t run properly, or if he was simply mad that he had to mow the lawn and decided that if he killed the mower then he wouldn’t have to mow the lawn.
Oh, the world is full of nut cases!

I wanted to get my parents something really special for Christmas this year, and had no idea what that would be. They spend most of their time together now that they are retired, so I thought it would be nice to get one big gift that they could share and use around the house. They pretty much have everything that they need, but have never been extravagant, and hardly ever spend on the extras. I was really stumped, and was starting to get desperate. I was lucky to come across http://www.giveadish.com/ the other day, because I found the perfect gift. I am going to connect Directv for them and pay for a year of their service. They have never had access to all of these channels and sports before and I think that they are really going to like it. I know that my dad will definitely like the fact that he can watch all NFL games, and my mom will enjoy the movie channels. It would be great if they actually like it because I always have the hardest time finding them something that is practical and enjoyable.
My mother asked me to cook supper tonight, she wasn’t feeling very well. I asked her what she wanted me to cook and she said “whatever.” So I know she REALLY wasn’t feeling well. So I scrounged around the kitchen to see what I could come up with. Something a little bit different than what we eat. I felt like experimenting. So I found some skinless chicken breasts in the refrigerator that had a “use by” date of tomorrow, so I decided to pull them out and use them.
Then I went to the pantry and was looking around. I found a can of Healthy Request Cream of Chicken soup, and a can of Healthy Request Cream of Mushroom soup. I pulled them out. I rinsed off the chicken and cut it into strips and put them in a covered casserole dish. Then I opened the cans of soup and poured them over the chicken, put the lid on and cooked it at 350 for a half hour. While that was cooking I cooked up some minute rice, some dinner rolls and some veggies and we had a great meal! I’ll have to cook that again sometime! Definitely put that in my recipe box!
